The bokeh photographic Blog is different to most other photography blogs. For good reason. If you are considering commissioning a professional photographer you want to be sure about two things. Firstly, the technical abilities of the photographer. Secondly, that you have trust and confidence in the photographer. The established convention for photography blogs is that each post should feature a ‘sneak peek’ (see below) of images from a photographer’s last shoot. Although most photography blogs seem to be based on this model the limitation is that each post simply replicates the type of images that can be found in the photographers portfolio whilst telling you very little about the photographer. We are continually reminded that people do business with people they know, like, value and trust. After all, you entrust a photographer to showcase your products and/or services (if a commercial shoot) or to present family and friends in the very best light if a personal shoot.

So what can you expect from the bokeh photographic Blog?

  • Firstly: Short posts - around 500 words - as feedback is that shorter blog entries are preferable to longer posts. Each post should take no longer than five minutes to read; ideal for a coffee break!
  • Secondly: Interesting, informative and entertaining posts which tell you something about me, my methods of working, the photographic equipment I use (particularly the more unusual kit) and the services that I offer. Hopefully, you will find out something you didn’t know beforehand!
  • Fourthly: No contrived ‘sneak peeks’. Despite implying privileged viewing such posts are in no way exclusive as images are visible to anyone who wishes to read the blog. Moreover, when each blog post week-after-week is described as a 'sneak peek' the notion is somewhat devalued. It’s also probably worth pointing out that simply blogging images from a recent photo shoot is the easiest type of post for a photographer as all that is required is to cut & paste from a client gallery!

In summary, a blog should be interesting, informative and entertaining and should help readers make a decision about whether to commission the photographer that has written that blog. Whilst a photography blog should complement a photography portfolio it crucially should provide something additional that will prove useful. Happy Reading!
